TSW Alloy Wheels and Racing
TSW Alloy Wheels is a brand closely linked to motor sports, and with a history steeped in racing. The company was launched in 1967 in South Africa by former Formula 1 driver Eddie Keizan using prize money from the track, and has had a continuous involvement in motor racing ever since. Over the years TSW has supplied wheels for a number of racing categories including German DTM cars, saloons and single seat race cars.
TSW's one-time subsidiary, ATS Wheels had its own Formula 1 team and TSW has partnered with Porsche for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. TSW has been the official wheel of the Indy 500 and TSW wheels have been fitted on the IndyCar Series emergency vehicles. Our Rotary Forged wheels have been used in the World Challenge Racing Series. Although the demands of race wheels are different to those built for the street, this has provided the opportunity for TSW to learn and to improve the product that you would fit to your street car.
The company is now headquartered globally in California, and led by Terrence Scheckter, nephew of former Formula 1 world champion Jodi Scheckter, therefore the racing pedigree of TSW Alloy Wheels still remains. In keeping with this racing heritage TSW alloy wheels are named after past and present race tracks and iconic corners at race circuits. The global association between TSW Alloy Wheels and Australia extends to the Australian market, where TSW has partnered with race teams including Prodrive Racing Australia and Erebus Motorsport.
In the 1990s TSW pioneered the race inspired hex nut look that was featured in designs such as the Revo and Hockenheim R, which have become a popular choice for both grass-roots racing and show cars.
In 2011 TSW began to manufacture many of its wheels using a highly advanced production technique called rotary forging. The rim of the wheel is forged at high pressure while the wheel is spun at high speed. This alters the molecular structure and enhances the strength of the alloy. The benefit is a much lighter weight than a regular cast wheel. The weight saving is in the outer rim of the wheel which dramatically reduces rotational mass and enhances vehicle performance.
Starting in the mid-2000s, automotive manufacturers introduced more and more cars that were designed to accommodate wider wheels on the rear of the car. This became known as a staggered wheel application. Today, TSW Alloy Wheels makes the largest range of staggered wheels in the world. Many sizes carry three different widths to provide an array of fitment options. TSW offers staggered wheels in sizes from 17" through 22".
